Playmaker History and the Community it Serves.

The Grove Community Playmakers, Inc., was founded by Suzanne and Jim Boles in 1995 and presented its first production, The Music Man, that July. Its success convinced the participants that there was a place for theatre in the Grand Lake area.

A Board of Directors was organized. A 501 (c) (3) tax status obtained.

In 2005, The Playmakers observed their tenth anniversary, celebrating the production of:
fifty-nine regular productions of which sixteen were major musicals
three un-staged musical programs
one full-length ballet
one original musical in British pantomime style.

Students were part of, or were the entire cast for twenty-seven of these productions.

In 2003, a Readers Theatre was organized. It has presented thirty performances of short plays at local restaurants, one full-length play and other plays as special programs for local organizations.

Approximately 10-20 new audience members are added to The Playmakers’ mailing list each production. Audiences primarily come from the Grove area in Delaware County, some from the greater Grand Lake area, and from neighboring towns in Missouri and Arkansas.

“All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”

a musical revue by Ernest Zulia; music and lyrics by David Caldwell. A refreshingly intimate combination of musical theatre and storytelling based on Robert Fulghum’s best selling credos for adults derived from childhood.

YMCA ,The Playmakers, and Java Dave’s Team Up for Upcoming Production
Want to attend a performance of The Playmakers’ “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” but don't have a baby-sitter? The Playmakers and the Grand Lake Family YMCA are offering a special ‘parents’ night out’ service for the three Friday night performances July 13, 20, & 27. Elementary age students are welcome to the show, but may not understand all of the stories. So, if you have children, aged 1-7 years old, The YMCA Super-Sitters will entertain your children while you enjoy the play. The YMCA will be open at 7:00 pm for this service. It's only $10 per child for the evening. Pick them up immediately after the play. Reserve a space for your child(ren) with The Playmakers, not the YMCA, when you make your reservations for the show. The service is provided for Playmaker audiences only.
The Grove Playmakers open Robert Fulghum’s “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” on Friday, July 13 at 7:30 pm, with assistance from the Oklahoma Arts Council. Despite the opening date, The Playmakers think you will be lucky if you get in on this refreshing evening of musical theatrical & storytelling, based on Fulghum’s best selling credos for adults.
Opening Night, Friday, July 13, will be a fun affair, with a live broadcast from Java Dave’s of the Integris Grove’s Grand Lake Live radio program. This program kicks off at 5:00 on KITO, 96.1. Java Dave’s will offer a 15%-off-special on meals & drinks during the two hour show, which will spotlight The Playmakers and the 2nd Saturday at Six downtown merchant participants.
Performances of “Kindergarten” are scheduled for July 13-15, 17, 19-22, and 27-28. All evening performances, Fridays, Saturdays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays, begin at 7:30 pm. Sunday matinee performances are at 2:00 pm. Adult tickets are $12 plus tax; elementary students through high school are $6 plus tax. The Playmakers accept Visa/MC. All performances are in the Off Broadway Arts Building, 121 W. 3rd Street, Grove, OK. For further information and necessary reservations, call 918-786-8950 or email play_theatre05@sbcglobal.net.

“A Christmas Survival Guide”

- A musical revue by James Hindman and Ray Roderick with music arrangements by John Glaudin. Reviewed as one of the funniest Christmas revues around, this sophisticated, intimately staged production, uses parody to describe, through both new and traditional songs, the holiday stress that seems to have become so characteristic in this country. The more traditional slant in the second act will be appreciated by those wanting to leave the theatre with an optimistic attitude as well as a warm heart.

“Grace & Glorie”

– A drama by Tom Ziegler will showcase two of our talented veteran actors this season. Grace is the feisty 90 year old cancer patient who will not leave her beloved homestead cottage to die. Glorie is the volunteer hospice worker who attempts to care for and comfort Grace. Though this is a drama that confirm hopes, it has a lot of good humor.
Billie Kurtz plays Grace.

“Moonlight & Magnolias”

–A comedy by Ron Hutchinson. What better theme for springtime than Moonlight and Magnolias. And what better content than a play about the making of the movie, Gone with the Wind! The play reveals a bit of non- fiction in a very comedic fiction about a week in the office of David O. Selznick as he pushes screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming to re-write the script to this huge undertaking. Alan Sharkis plays Selznick, Leonard Noel, Fleming, and the Rev.Philip Lawrence, Hecht.
