Theatre Tulsa Present’s “Master Class”
Theatre Tulsa announces the second show of the season "Master Class", written by Terrence McNally. The Tony Award winning show will be performed at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Liddy Doenges Theatre on November 7-9 and 13-15, 2008. Tickets range from $10 - $17.50. Reservations can be made at 587-8402, 596-7109, or at www.myticketoffice.com.
This year we are offering TACTA subscribers the chance to see an IDR on November 6, 2008 @ 8pm for the low price on one can of food. With the holidays coming and the food banks having very difficult times, we are offering this great way to help out area food banks and see some great theatre all at the same time.
Student night is on Nov 7 & 13 when student tickets are $5.00
Leonard Bernstein called soprano Maria Callas “The Operatic Bible”. Other have called her La Divina (The Divine) and Monstre Sacre (Sacred Monster). "Master Class" is a tour-de-force representation of the master classes Callas gave near the end of her career at the prestigious Julliard School. We see a Callas who is at the same time full of omniscience and self-doubt.
The cast for the show is Barbara Murn, Brad Morris, Kris Farnsworth, Barbara Klepper, Susannah Brooks, and Michael Shimp. The show is stage managed by Sue Woodruff, produced and teched by Anthony Batchelder, and directed by Dr. Donald Armstrong.
Thirty minutes before each show, Dr. Don Armstrong will be giving a fifteen minute pre-show lecture.
Dr. Donald Armstrong loves sharing music with others.
Armstrong, artistic administrator and director of the Studio Artist Program for Tulsa Opera, is a regular guest speaker on the topics of choral music, vocal pedagogy and opera.
Before joining the Tulsa Opera company, Armstrong worked as a vocal coach accompanist at The Washington National Opera. His professional experience also includes working as artistic director and conductor for The Maryland Choral Society and assistant artistic and musical director at The Keller Theater in Giessen, Germany. The former pianist in the U.S. Army Band is also a published choral music arranger.
His 11 years of teaching experience includes stints at University of Tulsa, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, as well as other private elementary and high schools in Virginia and one in Germany.
Theatre Tulsa is a proud member of the Tulsa Area Community Theatre Alliance, the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association.
This production made possible by grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, The George Kaiser Family Foundation, The Williams Companies, Urban Tulsa Weekly, Dale Gillman Antiques, Donna Simmons/Tulsa Tech Broken Arrow and all the proud sponsors of Theatre Tulsa. |
