Quick . . . name three decisions that you made that have hugely impacted how your life has developed. What came to mind? Love? Career? Friends? Goals? Values? We’ve all got those moments when we make seemingly inconsequential decisions that we only know in hindsight were pivotal points in our lives. In Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, the audience receives a once-in-a-lifetime look at how those “little” decisions inevitably lead to “big” results as our lives ripen. Cascia Hall will present the musical at 7pm on March 4, 5 and 6 with a Sunday matinee performance at 2 pm on March 7, 2010. This is perfect timing for Sondheim fans who want to brush up on a less frequently produced show before his upcoming lecture at the University of Tulsa in April.

By using the unique technique of moving backward through the lives of the main characters, the audience watches “minor” choices being made, knowing exactly where these “minor” choices will lead because the previous scene encompassed the same character at an older age. Focusing the action through this amazing backward prism provides an exceptionally enjoyable experience for both the audience and the cast. Director Meredith Purgason commented, “Merrily is a very special show with themes that speak to you whether you’re 16 or 60. The gorgeous score and bittersweet lyrics about growing up and making choices make this the kind of musical that resonates years from now in the lives of cast members and audiences alike.” Purgason first performed in the show 10 years ago with Tulsa’s Clark Theatre and produced a New York production in 2005.

Audience members 21 and up have a special opportunity to participate in Cascia’s Dinner Theatre event on Saturday, March 6th. A delectable Italian feast will be served, accompanied by a glass of wine, and followed by Saturday’s performance of Merrily. Additional drink tickets may be purchased at the door. All monies raised will go to benefit the Cascia Hall Fine Arts Department. Tickets for dinner only are $15.00. Dinner and general admission seating for the Saturday evening performance costs $25.00, while dinner and special producer level seating is $35.00. Merrily We Roll Along runs March 4-6 at 7pm and March 7 at 2pm at the Helmerich Theatre at Cascia Hall. Tickets may be purchased in advance for discount prices of $10.00 for front orchestra seating and $5.00 for all other seats.
